royal jelly

What is royal jelly?

  • It is a creamy liquid produced by worker bees to feed their queens and offspring.
  • While the queen bee exclusively feeds on royal jelly throughout her life, worker bees feed on royal jelly for a short period.
  • While the queen bee is a fertile female that can live for 5-7 years under suitable conditions, worker bees are sterile females that live for a maximum of 4-5 weeks.
  • Queen bees are more resistant to diseases than worker bees.
  • Royal jelly is considered a highly nutritious food containing proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, phenolic compounds, amino acids, and fatty acids.
