Silver is characterized by its great flexibility compared to other metals which makes it more susceptible to damage scratching and staining which requires careful polishing to preserve it.
Coke contains acid that removes the pigmentation of silver pieces very effectively and it is preferable to use it to polish small silver pieces as this is by placing an amount of it in a bowl then soaking the silver in it for several minutes only then rinse these pieces with lukewarm water and dry them using a soft cloth gently .
Cream of tartar is a natural acid that can be used effectively in cleaning and polishing old silver pieces and you can get this cooking cream that is extracted from grape fruits by purchasing it from the spice section in various grocery stores and using it as follows:
Mix one teaspoon of cream of tartar with a cup of water in a small bowl then soak the silver piece with the resulting solution for five minutes to clean it initially by lightening its pigmentation.
Wipe the silver piece dry with a towel after removing it from the solution.
Rub the silver piece with a toothbrush by placing a teaspoon of cream of tartar in a small bowl then moisten the brush and drench it with cream of tartar and rub the piece with repeating the process as needed.
Rub all parts of the silver piece until you get a clean shiny piece.
