What is Solgar Folic Acid (Folacin) 400 mcg 100 Tablet?
Solgar Folacin is a dietary supplement containing folic acid, also known as vitamin B9. Derived from the Latin word Folium (leaf), Folic Acid was first discovered in spinach leaves in 1941. Based on research, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that expectant mothers regularly use folic acid. Low levels of folate derived from folic acid are a risk factor for neural tube defects in fetal development.
Supplemental folic acid intake increases the folate level of the expectant mother. To achieve the beneficial effect, it is necessary to take 400 mcg of folic acid daily, starting at least 1 month before pregnancy and continuing for 3 months after.
